Bus and Students
Two weeks needed to regulate fall bus routes
To provide bus transportation for students efficiently, the FISD Transportation Department requests parents allow two weeks of school to be underway to get routes settled.
The two-week period provides time for bus drivers to determine which students and which locations will want bus transportation. To do this, some delays are expected.
FHS HOSA to raise money for Autism Speaks Walk
Friendswood High School Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) is joining HOSA groups around the nation in supporting Autism Speaks, a walk for autism. The Houston Autism Speaks Walk will be October 18, 2008 at Reliant Park.Austism Walk
Last year FHS HOSA under the direction of Karmen Genzer, raised $2400 for Autism.  This year they plan to raise even more, according to Genzer.
Autism is a complex brain disorder that inhibits a person's ability to communicate and develop social relationships and is often accompanied by extreme behavioral challenges. Autism spectrum disorders are diagnosed in 1 in 150 children in the United States, affecting four times as many boys as girls.
The diagnosis of autism has increased tenfold in the last decade. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have called autism a national public health crisis whose cause and cure remain unknown.
Genzer hopes that other student groups, staff and community members will consider donating to the cause, joining their team, or starting their own team. Contact Genzer for more information (281-482-3413).
FHS in Germany
This summer, 16 Friendswood German students participated in the 2008 GAPP exchange (German American Partnership Program), which is a bi-lateral exchange and homestay supported by the US State Department and German Education Ministry.  FHS German Club
Partner schools exchange students for three weeks in each country, during which the guests live in host families, attend school and participate in field trips. The goals of the program are to promote cultural understanding and global awareness, while using classroom-learned language skills and generally experiencing life as a teenager in the host country.
Participating students were Austin Beisert, Ashley Hoffmann, Nathan Roberts, Kayla Orsak, Albert Fabian, Grant Hopping, Adam Stewart, Allie Ogden, Ben Braun, Madeline Harrington, Anna Carlson, Garrett Steiger, Hunter Ivey, Barrett Perkins, Jessica Tomerlin and Ariel Royall. Band
FHS Band Parent Night involves performing students, marching parents
Friendswood High School Band parents got a taste of what it is like to be in one of the top bands in the state at a recent event held for band parents.
The Friendswood High School Marching Band hosted their annual Parent Night at FHS recently.
The Mustang Band performed the opening of their 2008 production entitled Endless Possibilities.
After the marching performance, the band played selections such as Land of A Thousand Dances and Get Ready For This.
To conclude the evening, the parents joined the students on the marching field and were taught how to hold an instrument, the attention position, and how to march.
"The parents marched up and down the field making some interesting sounds. Fun was had by all. Congratulations to the FHS Band and the parents!" FHS Band Director Greg Dick said.
