FHS has art students win awards
The regional art competition, Visual Art Scholastic Event (VASE), took place recently.  More than 2500 art pieces were judged.  
FHS ended up winning 52 Gold Medals with eight students advancing to the state level.

32 compete, all win at Galveston Science Fair
All 32 FHS students who competed in the Galveston County Science Fair this Saturday won at least one award.  FHS students swept the Senior Division and earned a total of $3400 in cash prizes.
In addition, Ben Braun was awarded a $2500 college scholarship.

The Friendswood Junior High Theatre Department presents "Just Another High School Play" by Bryan Starchman on Thursday, March 5, 2009 and Friday, March 6, 2009 at 7 p.m. at the FJH Auditorium.  Tickets are $4 for adults and $2 for students/children.

Westwood is one of 25 schools selected as national finalists.
  Westwood Elementary has been named one of 25 schools and two districts to be National Finalists in its National Schools of Character (NSOC) awards program sponsored by The Character Education Partnership (CEP).
  CEP, the nation's leading advocate for quality character education, chose the 27 National Finalists from a record 185 applicants across the United States. Bus Speech4 FHS Speech students win Transportation contest
   FHS students Megan Brann, Lesleigh Balkum, Kristi Board, and Johnathan Moore placed first in their respective grade levels recently in the 8th Annual School Bus Safety Speech Contest sponsored by the Texas Association for Pupil Transportation at Region IV.  They will compete at the state level in April.

FISD Food Services to add The Bistro at FHS
   Friendswood High School welcomes something new to the school cafeteria. The Bistro at FHS will offer a special food item for each day of the week.
  Opening March 9, The Bistro offers an opening special. Students who purchase one of the new menu items will receive a free 16-ounce drink March 9-13.

Education Foundation thanks underwriters, donors for their support
   A True Blue Evening, this year's fundraiser by the Friendswood ISD Education Foundation March 7 at Space Center Houston has a slate of underwriters that made the event possible.
   Foundation directors and the event co-chairs CiCi Newkirk and Selena Ellis want to thank the following partners for helping make A True Blue Evening possible:  Commerce Equities, Inc. and the businesses of the Acadiana Center; Bay Architects, Lexus of Clear Lake and AMOCO Federal Credit Union. They and this year's Foundation Major Donors were recognized at the gala by name. Major donors attending included the Moody Foundation (Bobby & Ingrid Moody), Walter & Elaine Manning, and The Boeing Company,

FHS visitors teach, form Integrity Teams at Westwood
   Three FHS PALs visited Westwood Elementary teachers Morgan Ryza and Heather Bowen recently to reinforce character-building efforts, specifically in relation to the Fairness Pillar.

Golf Tournament set to benefit FHS Baseball  
  The 2008 Mustangs raised the bar with the first ever run to the Baseball state tournament! Many of you took that ride up to Austin to watch the boys make Friendswood proud. We need your ongoing support to continue to provide the tools and equipment needed to keep making this program better.
  Please come out to Timber Creek March 11. Shotgun start is at 1:00 with registration starting at 10:00 am, putting contest at 10:30 am.
  The registration fee is $125 and includes green fee, cart fee, range balls, lunch, beverage tickets and door prizes.
