Latin students at Friendswood High School received good news following their taking the National Latin Exam. More than half of those taking the tests received various levels of recognition. 

FHS Latin had 65 students taking the exam this year. In addition, Winston Wu and Brandon Goddard were two questions from a perfect score, while Nathan Nguyen was one question away from a perfect score.

These difficult tests are taken by over 135,000 Latin students all over the world and only a very small handful earn a perfect score each year, so coming as close as Nathan, Brandon and Winston did is really remarkable, according to Latin teacher Michael Wells.  

In Latin 4, Bryan Nguyen was summa cum laude and a gold medalist; Andrew Ochoa was awarded summa cum laude and a gold medalist; John Forsyth and David Gillespie both made magna cum laude; and Billy Luell with cum laude.

In Latin 3, Winston Wu and Nick Mapp were both summa cum laude and  gold medalists; Cailey Fitzgerald, Alex Trochessett, and Ryann Head were all maxima cum laude and silver medalists; Lacey Collins, Liz Ziegler, and Meredith Suggs were all magna cum laude; and Beth Armstrong, MacKenzie Unger and Madeline Renals were all cum laude.

In Latin 2, Nathan Nguyen and Brandon Goddard were both summa cum laude and gold medalists; Rita Pham, Lesleigh Balkum, Lindsey Bonnen, Ezequiel Briceno, Chandler Metcalf, Todd McCormack, Conrad Beck, and Brandon Chao all were maxima cum laude as well as silver medalists.  Carly Dillon, Rachel So, and Erin Brayley are all magna cum laude. Nolan Harvey, Kyle Mitchell, and Elisabeth Del Toro were cum laude.
