News: FHS places first in UIL Academics at Regional level

Friendswood High School took first place in the Region 3-4A UIL Academic contest in Huntsville recently.

FHS had 349 points placing them first. In second place was Magnolia ISD with 128 points and third place Port Neches Grove with 99 points.

The UIL Computer Science team took first place at the Regional Meet.

In the individual CS test event, all team members placed: Chris Cotter with first place, Andrew Wiley second and tied for fourth place Ben Braun and Adam Coleman. Sponsor is Annette Walter.

The Computer Applications students swept the Regional meet with Winston Wu, in first place, Ben Braun in second and Noah Kessler in third. Sponsor is Conny Moran.

The Social Studies Team of Bryan Nguyen, Ben Cuadra, Ashlee James, and Lesleigh Balkum won first place.  Individually, Nguyen won third, Cuadra won fourth, and James won fifth.  Diane Hannegan is sponsor.

The UIL Math team earned first place at the region. Team members are Chris Cotter, Ben Braun, Noah Kessler, and Chris Gillespie. Individually, Cotter placed first, Braun second, and Kessler sixth. Sponsor is Mary Gillespie.

Danielle Wilson placed first in Literary Criticism. Sponsor is Suzanne Stafford.

The Current Issues and Events Team of Jeff Allison, Hunter Ivey, and Lindsay Ricker won first.  Hunter Ivey was the first place individual winner. Mary Rinehart is the sponsor.

Jonathan Crutchfield placed second and will advance to state in news writing, and Miranda Jean who placed second will advance in editorial writing. Sponsor is Vicki Hartzell.

The  Spelling/Vocabulary team  placed first and is composed of Julia Bradley, Kaitlyn Gruener, Grace McDonald, and Winston Wu who will advance to state.  Julia Bradley placed first. Pepper Smith is the sponsor.

Jennifer Finch won second place in Poetry and Prose.

In Persuasive Speaking, Megan Brann received first place. Stephen Feith received fifth place.

The Science Team took first place with members Chris Cotter, Brandon Taylor, Ben Braun and James Gregory. Overall individual scores include Chris Cotter in first place, Brandon Taylor in second, and Ben Braun in sixth.

Top Chemistry Scores went to Chris Cotter in first place and Brandon Taylor in second place. Top Physics score was awarded to Chris Cotter in first place. Sponsor is Andrea Lee.
