News: JH boys cross country teams win Zone Championships

The 2008 Mustang boys' cross country teams capped off a perfect season by winning the 7th and 8th grade Zone Championships in Dickinson on December 9.  

The 7th grade team edged out Pearland South by 7 points in the win. 

The Mustangs showed great depth with 12 runners finishing in the top 25.  Top finishers were Andrew Candee (2), Nelson Swindler (3), Jake Bradshaw (5), David Bordelon (9), Max Reinert (11), Robert Anselmo (13), Michael Otto (15), Anthony Makransky (17), Garrett Wenzel (18), Derek Janak (22), Joseph Cocetti (23) and Bryan Fowler (24). 

The 8th grade team defended their 7th grade championship as they finished 30 points ahead of the second place team.  The 8th grade team also shows great depth with 15 runners finishing in the top 25.  Ryan Teel finished first and ended his junior high crosscountry races undefeated over the past two years. 

Other finishers were Levi Kessler (2), Austin Cline (3), Jordan Wood (8), Zack Tucker (10), Calvin Cobb (11), Nicholas Beckman (13), Sean Byron (14), Troy Richardson (16), Logan Varner (17), Kyle Bellard (18), Wesley Moncrief (21), Daniele Taddei (22), Josh Newcomb (24) and Cameron Slone (25). 

Coach Max Crowell would like to thank the 60 boys that made up the team for their many miles and hard work put in this season. 

“A special thanks to Coach Mavus and Coach Garcia for help with driving this year,” Crowell said
