Citizenship is a character trait that is showcased by Dr. David Hearn. He is currently to be honored as an Honorary Alumni, one of six Distinguished Alumni chosen to be honored by FHS alumni and the Friendswood ISD Education Foundation at their annual fundraiser March 7. The True Blue Evening honoring the six will take place at Space Center Houston in the Astronaut’s Gallery. |

Hearn will be honored for his achievements and will represent the Character Counts trait of Citizenship. The six honorees each represent one of the six traits and will depicted with their trait on a Character Counts! poster placed in all classrooms in FISD for a year.
Dr. Hearn graduated in 1957 from Woodlawn High School in Birmingham, Alabama. He received his BA from Birmingham Southern College and his MD from Medical College of Alabama. He also served as a US Air Force Flight Surgeon. He married Cynthia Claire Ford June 10, 1962. Together they have four daughters: Cynthia Denise Hearn Dibble, Rebecca Alyse Hearn Wilt, Heather Leigh Hearn Ausec, and Laurie Elizabeth Hearn Krupala.
Dr. Hearn retired January 1, 2008 from a successful practice in surgery that began in 1972. He served as a clinical instructor in surgery from 1972-1979. He was the Medical Director at Clear Lake Emergency Medical Corp and Friendswood Emergency Medical Service from 1972-2005 and Chairman of the Dept. of Surgery at HCA Clear Lake Regional Medical Center from 1999-2001.
In community activities, he was a member of the Friendswood ISD Board of Trustees 1980-1993, 1999-2000, 2006-2008. He served as president 1982-1984. He served as Chairman of the Ethical Values Committee, Chairman of the City of Friendswood Swimming Pool Committee, Advisory Board member for White, Petrov and McHone, and Core Committee member for A Call to Remembrance, the delivery of a painting by Laurie Whitehead to Washington, D.C.
He has also served on the United Methodist Church Choir, League City and Pearland EMS, Bay Area Young Life Committee, and Houston Metro. He was on the Executive Board for Harris County Medical Society and Houston Academy of Medicine and was a member for 22 years in the House of Delegates of the Texas Medical Association.
Awards include the Jefferson Award in 1980, the City of Friendswood Outstanding Volunteer 1985, Community Service Family of the Year in 1990, Dr. David Hearn Day in the city January 17, 2005, and FISD Making a Difference Award 2008.
He has shared many experiences with children in FISD and at Westwood joined their Wednesday Warbles and played the flute for them.
