News: Mustang Swim Teams Win District 24-4A Championship Meet

The Mustangs won their eighth straight District Swimming title and the Lady Mustangs won their tenth straight District Swimming title at the District 24 4A Championship meet Feb. 6 at the Texas City Natatorium. 

Leading the way with four Gold Medals each were Seniors Cole Cragin and Caroline McElhany and Junior Melissa Watson. 

Individual District Records were broken. 

Cole Cragin broke his own records in the 100 Butterfly with a time of 51.19 and the 100 Backstroke with a time of 51.20.

Alexandria Taylor competed in the 500 Freestyle with a time of 5:32.83.

Melissa Watson competed in the 100 Breaststroke with a time of 1:09.17.

Relay Teams from Friendswood also set District Records. 

The Girls 200 Medley Relay team of Caroline McElhany, Melissa Watson, Rachel Cragin and Kennedy Metcalf set a record.

The Boys 200 Medley Relay team of Cole Cragin, Jared Maloy, Alec Maloy and Daniel Rockey set a record.

The Girls 200 Freestyle Relay team of Caroline McElhany, Lauren Lundquist, McKenna Harclerode and Rachel Cragin set a record.

As a team, the Mustang Swimmers won a total of 52 medals (1st - 3rd place) and qualified 30 (18 Girls and 12 Boys) to advance to the Regional Championship meet this weekend at the University of Houston Aquatic Center.    

At University of Houston, the Mustangs will be competing to defend their title as Region 6-4A Champions. If they are successful, this will mark the seventh consecutive time both the Girls and Boys have done so.
