“Our local friends and businesses are really coming through for us in a big way,” event chairs Selena Ellis and CiCi Newkirk said. Newkirk and Ellis are calling on husbands, friends and acquaintances to come up with generous and creative ways to appeal to bidders at the auction.
“We have people offering dinners in their homes, condos and hotel stays in Galveston, Houston and Austin and local sporting event packages that will offer fun for family and friends. We think that both young and older will enjoy our Space Center location and we are asking our guests to wear their favorite blue from scrubs to scrumptious,” Newkirk said.
Auction chair Lesley DiBello said, “We want to have items that people of all ages can afford to bid on. Our packages include everything from spa services and gifts to a local dinner for two with wine and flowers. We even have the perfect teen party with tickets for the March 8 Jonas Brothers performance at the rodeo and a sterling heart necklace for the young lady.”
A True Blue Evening is the major fund raising event of the year for the Friendswood ISD Education Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization benefiting the teachers and students of the district through innovative teaching grants. The event to be held on March 7, 2009 at Space Center Houston will be a festive night honoring several distinguished alumni of Friendswood High School including Kent Ballard, Jim Hill, Floyd Brown Jr., Beryl Cline, Randy Speck and Honorary Alumnus Dr. David Hearn.
