Brown will be honored for his achievements and will represent the Character Counts! trait of Respect. The six honorees all represent one of the six traits and will depicted with their trait on a Character Counts! poster placed in all classrooms in FISD for a year.
Brown graduated from Friendswood High School in 1944. He had come to FISD in third grade and stayed through graduation. Afterwards, he attended Friends Bible College (Now Barclay College) in Haviland, Kansas and Pacific College (now George Fox University) in Newburg, Oregon. In 1948 he graduated from Friends University in Wichita, Kansas with a BA degree and in 1965 he received his Master’s of Education degree from UH.
Brown held various leadership positions for FISD. He filled vacancies for two band directors, taught band, choir, public school music and numerous other classes for nine years form 1958 to 1967. He was the acting superintendent for spring 1967 and was the junior high principal for nine years from 1967 to 1976. He was a member of the FISD Board of Education for six years.
As a lifelong member of Friendswood Friends Church, Brown held several leadership roles, including Presiding Clerk, FFC Cemetery Administrator and various committees, including building and sound.
In his career, Brown has also run Brown Brothers Dairy and raised beef cattle. He has operated Brown Associates, done Estate Management, worked at Hughes Tool, and was a charter member of both the Friendswood Volunteer Fire Department and Community National Bank board of Directors.
With all of the above success, Brown feels his greatest achievement is his family.
He is married to Marjorie Faye Glines (Class of 1949) and together they have three children: Cheryl Brown Huber and husband Steve, James and wife Cindy; Ronald Brown and wife Susan. They have six grandchildren. His siblings include Ona Mae Brown Worden (Class of 1946) and brothers Carmie (Class of 1951), Connie (Class of 1951), and Stanley (Class of 1954).
What an impact Floyd Brown has had in his lifetime. He impacted the education of many children and provided service to his community. His legacy of respect continues to live through the many he has influenced. |
