News: Board member visits Westwood
posted: January 28, 2009

As a part of this month's celebration of School Board members around the state, Westwood took time Wednesday morning to honor their adopted FISD School Board member, Brandon Burris.

Recently at Warbles, by celebrating him with the song All That I Can Be, under the direction of student-teacher John Gallagher, Burris told students that they, too, could serve on a School Board one day.

Principal Lynn Hobratschk then introduced Mr. Burris to his Westwood family.  He, in turn, introduced his two children, who attend Westwood, and his wife, Tiffany, who entertained the crowd by playing a few tunes on the nose flute.

Next, Assistant Principal Lee Whitlock presented the Burris family with a signed copy of one of Westwood’s favorite books Have You Filled a Bucket Today? by Carol McCloud.

Following the Warbles gathering, Mr. and Mrs. Burris enjoyed breakfast with a teacher-nominated student ambassador from each grade level.  As they shared stories over their morning meal, they got so comfortable with one another that the Westwood character cam caught Mr. Burris performing a few magic tricks for the awe-struck students.

Westwood thanks Mr. Burris for serving on the School Board on their behalf.
