News: FHS has art students win awards
posted: March 2, 2009

The regional art competition, Visual Art Scholastic Event (VASE), took place recently at North Shore High School.  More than 2500 art pieces were judged from Region 4 East.

FHS ended up with 52 Gold Medals with eight students advancing to the state level.

FHS students advancing to state are Bud Oefelein with two winning art pieces; Jack Carpening, Nicole Blackwood, Ezequiel Briceno, Bryce Burton, Jake Melgren and Amber Prince.

“Our students worked very hard on their art pieces and we were all excited to have such good results,” art teacher Jan Nemitz said.  “Thanks to all of you who continually show their support of our art students.  We are very proud of their acccomplishments.”

VASE is part of the Texas Art Education Association (TAEA).

FHS art teachers are Jenifer Sundria, Mary Giles and Jan Nemitz.
