News: FISD Food Services to add The Bistro at FHS
posted: March 2, 2009

Friendswood High School welcomes something new to the school cafeteria. The Bistro at FHS will offer a special food item for each day of the week.

Opening March 9, The Bistro will offer an opening special. Students who purchase one of the new menu items will receive a free 16-ounce drink March 9-13.

Mondays will feature a Pasta Bar and Tuesdays will be the Sandwich Shop. Wednesday will showcase Chicken Fried Steak with Pizzeria/Oriental on Thursday. Burrito is Friday’s special.

The cafeterias in FISD are under the direction of Aramark employee and Director of FISD Food Services Joseph Fitzgerald.

In the Spring of 2007 Food Services introduced the Pasta Bar where items were cooked there and served and it was a hit, according to Fitzgerald. “In order to bring back the Pasta Bar we will be moving our lines to accommodate the demonstration cooking.”

A Friendswood Junior, Nathan King said, "The Pasta Bar is AWESOME!"

To accommodate The Bistro, the hot lunch line will shift to the middle line in the cafe.

Christine Estling, High School Manager, has been working hard to research menu concepts, recipes and ingredients for the new line.

The Bistro line will introduce more selections for the students and ability for students to make more menu choices.  Three of the five days food services will be making items to order.

For example on the Burrito day, students can choose between 1) Burrito or 2) Tacos.  They will also have a choice of meat, beans, rice and veggies.

“We are excited to offer this new line and believe our menu selection will be something the students will enjoy,” Fitzgerald said.
