Lady Mustangs finish second in Lamar Consolidated Softball Tournament

The FHS Lady Mustang softball team wrapped up their pre-district season by finishing second in the Lamar Consolidated tournament March 5-7. 

The Lady Mustangs went 4-1-0 for the weekend with their only loss coming in the championship game against Katy-Seven Lakes. The Lady Mustangs beat Hastings 5-0, Terry Foster 1-0, Fort Bend-Dulles 1-0 and Fort Bend-Austin 1-0. They lost to Katy-Seven Lakes 0-1.

This was the third tournament for the Lady Mustangs this season; they won the Marble Falls Tournament and finished second in both the El Campo and Lamar Consolidated tournaments.

Kelly Smith was 4-1-0 for the tournament and pitched two no-hitters. Kelly pitched a total of 30 innings allowing no earned runs and struck out 51 batters.

Offensive contributors for the tournament were Aimee Konet with 5 hits and 2 RBIs, Carrie Flores with 4 hits, 1 RBI and 2 runs scored. Kelsey Eubanks with 2 hits, Katie Caswell with 2 hits and 2 RBIs, Caitlin Bennett with 1 hit and 1 run scored, Lindsey Davis and Aimee Fifield with 2 hits, Lauren Massar, Brittney Brown and Samantha Steffes with 1 hit each.

Lady Mustangs outlast Texas City in the District opener

The FHS Lady Mustang softball team scored a big win in a 3 1/2 hour, 13 inning marathon game against Texas City recently. The Lady Mustangs finally defeated the Sting 4-2 on the game-winning run scored by Caitlin Bennett driven in by Kelsey Eubanks’ single. Kelsey also scored in the 13th for an insurance run driven in by Lindsey Davis’ double.

Kelly Smith was the winning pitcher and pitched all 13 innings. After giving up 2 runs in the first 2 innings, Kelly and the Lady Mustang defense held Texas City scoreless for the next 11 innings. Kelly had 22 strike-outs in the game and walked only 1 batter.

Samantha Steffes served as the spark plug for the team with her double in the 6th that started the rally to tie the score 2-2. The offensive contributors in the game were Kelsey Eubanks with 3 hits (1 double), 2 RBIs and 1 run scored, Samantha Steffes with 2 hits (1 double) and 1 run scored, Aimee Fifield with 1 hit and 1 run scored, Caitlin Bennett with 1 double and 1 run scored, Lindsey Davis with 1 double and 1 RBI, Aimee Konet with 1 triple, and Caitlyn Garivey with 1 hit.
