"The Company of Great Expectations would like to dedicate this win to Dr. Myrlene Kennedy in honor of her 50 years as a sponsor of UIL Activities at Friendswood," Director Kathy Powdrell said.
The win is especially important because the University Interscholastic League will celebrate its Centennial year this June.
“Great Expectations would like to thank Principal Mark Griffon for his support and encouragement; we really appreciate it. GE wishes to thank the Fine Arts Team, the English Team and the faculty of FHS for the support of UIL One Act Play. Special thanks go out to Amy Thornton and Cliff Mabry for their help, support, and encouragement at every level of competition. The cast would also like to thank Superintendent Trish Hanks for her support,” Powdrell said.
This is the fourth appearance to the State meet in four years for FHS. This is the school's 16th appearance to the state meet: 12 appearances with Powdrell as director.
“Friday's win brings the fourth Conference AAAA State Championship to FHS Theatre! This legacy was built upon the dedication and commitment of Dr. Myrlene Kennedy and for that the FHS Drama Department is very grateful and give heartfelt thanks,” Powdrell said.
