News: FJH Varsity Treble Choir chosen a 2010 Invited Performing Choir
posted: May 21, 2009

The Friendswood Junior High School Varsity Treble Choir has been named a 2010 State Invited Performing Choir by the Texas Music Educators' Association.  This is an extraordinary honor that music ensembles from all over Texas strive to accomplish each year.

Over 90 outstanding choirs from around the state submitted audition applications, and from them, FJH Varsity Treble Choir was chosen.

The Varsity Treble Choir will perform at the Texas Music Educators' Association Convention in February 2010 in the presence of music students, music educators, and fine arts coordinators from around the state.  Director Melissa Smith extends her heartfelt congratulations to these talented girls.

The 2008-2009 FJH Varsity Treble Choir is comprised of 47 seventh and eighth grade girls with outstanding vocal quality and musicianship.  Auditions in May of the previous school year determine placement in this ensemble, which is the sole varsity choir at Friendswood Junior High.

Throughout the year, the choir performs for parents and friends at the Fall Concert, Holiday Concert, Pre-UIL Concert, and Spring Pop Show; as well as for the community at Friendswood's annual Wrap the Town Red for Red Ribbon Week, during the holidays with their Cookies and Carols tour, and National Anthem performances for school pep rallies and other community gatherings.

The Varsity Treble Choir boasts a tradition of excellence at all of their annual contests.  A majority of the girls in Varsity Treble are chosen for Region Choir every year.

The choir consistently earns superior ratings at UIL Solo & Ensemble and UIL Concert & Sight-reading Contests.  This year the girls were honored to be invited to perform with Bay Area Chorus as a part of their spring concert season, Illumination.

In addition to being outstanding singers and musicians, the choir members are also well-rounded, high-excelling individuals; many are involved in National Junior Honor Society, Student Council, athletics, cheerleading, musical productions, competitive dance, Color-Guard, Girl Scouts, Young Life, and other church youth and community outreach programs.
