Karam was not the only high school player to put up outstanding numbers this weekend. Other U.S. Army All-American Bowl Player of the Week Nominees included wide receiver Logan Heastie, Great Bridge High School (Chesapeake, VA) who had a terrific performance in a 49-7 win over Nansemond River High School, with 10 receptions for 147 yards and two touchdowns.
Running Backs Trent Richardson of Escambia High School (Pensacola, FL) and Christine Michael of West Brook Senior High School, (Beaumont, TX) also put together impressive games. Richardson gained 351 yards on the ground and scored three times in a 21-14 win over Catholic High School (Pensacola, FL) while Michael rushed for 192 yards and three touchdowns in a 41-23 win over Baytown Sterling High School.
“The Army is proud to recognize Jacob Karam who, like the American Soldier, finds the inner strength to never give up until the mission is completed,” Colonel David Lee, Deputy Chief of Staff, G-7, Strategic Communications, Marketing and Outreach, U.S. Army Accessions Command said. “The strength to succeed, to be a leader, is a highly-valued characteristic of every Army Strong Soldier. Karam’s efforts clearly echo that strength.”
The U.S. Army All-American Bowl Player of the Week was designed to recognize the nation’s top performance of the week. The winner will be announced each Monday, throughout the season and noted on www.usarmyallamericanbowl.com.
The U.S. Army All-American Bowl is the premier high school football game in the country, annually setting new attendance records every January at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.
The game, which features the best high school football players in the nation, has helped launch the careers of Reggie Bush, Vince Young, Adrian Peterson, Tim Tebow and many other college and NFL stars since the first game in 2001. The game also crowns the U.S. Army Player of the Year during Bowl Week in San Antonio.
