Veteran’s Day was celebrated in Friendswood ISD at Friendswood High School and Westwood Elementary.

A special flag ceremony was held at FHS with students who have signed up to serve in the military following high school and a vet who is part of FHS.

Vet Day 1Eduardo Garcia is a retired First Sergeant in the United States Army Reserves Medical Unit. He spent two years in active duty in Vietnam from 1970-1971. In total, he served 23 years. He is a member of the VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) in Bacliff - Post 8566.  He is currently on the custodial staff at FHS.

FHS students involved include Ryan Jackson who is enlisting in the Marines after graduation, Brandon Gray who has enlisted in the Army, Thomas Abuisi who has enlisted in the Army and Kyle Bear who is enlisting in the Army after graduation.

Vet Day 4At Westwood Elementary, a morning and afternoon ceremony for Veteran’s Day was held on campus. Students invited any relative they had that was or is currently in the military. Many grandparents and parents who were vets attended.

Music teacher Laura Rachita had her music students perform a variety of patriotic arrangements.

Students presented all veterans attending letters they had written thanking the vets for their service and for helping keep our country free.

Lt. Sergeant Dave Serage, just home from Iraq, presented Westwood Elementary Principal Lynn Hobratschk with an American flag that flew over Iraq during his more than 100 missions. His family lives in Friendswood and his children are in Westwood.
