posted: October 20, 2008

Friendswood High School Band came out on top at their recent competition.

The FHS Marching Band competed in Conroe at the Lone Star Preview Marching Contest sponsored by the Woodlands High School Band recently.

All together, 21 bands competed in the preliminary competition with Friendswood coming out on top in the 4A division and second overall to Brazoswood in the 5A division.

Friendswood won the Class 4A Championship and swept all of the caption awards in 4A, according to Band Director Greg Dick.

The caption awards consist of Outstanding Musical Performance, Outstanding Visual Performance, Outstanding General Effect, Outstanding Color Guard and Outstanding Percussion.

By placing second in the preliminary competition, the band earned one of 10 spots in the finals that evening.

Friendswood was the only 4A band in the finals that evening and finished in fourth place behind Brazoswood, Westfield, and Clear Brook. The point spread between the 4 bands was 1.65.

“The kids did their best show to date and we are very proud of them,” Dick said.

Band directors include Dick, Julio Sanchez, Aaron Brown, and Ron Barnett.
