News: Hurricane Ike doesn’t slow down CLEAR at FISD
posted: October 6, 2008

FISD students at the junior high and high school campuses have signed up in record numbers for membership in CLEAR (Clean Living Encouragement and Responsibility). CLEAR is a voluntary positive peer group of youth committed to a drug-free lifestyle.

CLEARYouth involved in CLEAR make a commitment to be drug-free by volunteering to be randomly drug-tested. CLEAR members promote a drug-free lifestyle and help to increase awareness of the effects of drugs and alcohol on youth.

Last year was the first year of the organization and by the end of the year, CLEAR had 301 members at FJH and 624 members at FHS. This year the hurricane interfered with timing for a membership rally, but in spite of Ike, record membership numbers were achieved on both campuses with 357 at FJH representing a 19 % increase over last year; and 660 at FHS compared to 624 representing a 6 % increase.

Hurricane Ike set all activities back for over a week, but student leaders in CLEAR have been meeting with their campus sponsors planning the year of education activities, service projects and socials as well as designing t-shirts that best represent their student population. Sponsors on both campuses are dedicated teachers who have volunteered to take on this extra work load! Friendswood Junior High is led by Megan Marshall with Corey Dalton and Lindsay Hutchins assisting and Friendswood High School is led by Debbie Rogers with Michael Lindsey and Nicole Hillman assisting.
