Community members, friends, alumni and family members are invited to nominate an alumnus/alumna from graduation years 1940-1988 to be honored. The recipient needs to be a Friendswood ISD graduate who has been a leader, left their mark and /or made a difference to better their profession, their community or society as a whole.
The recipient does not have to live in Friendswood or have accomplishments that only reflect this area. Graduates from FISD are successful worldwide.
The Alumni Association is using criteria from FISD’s Character Counts! Program which emphasizes Six Pillars of Character: Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring and Citizenship. Alumni considered for Distinguished Alumni Awards must reflect one of these character traits within their particular area of achievement or talent.
Forms are on the FISD website at www.fisdk12.net under Partners/Education Foundation. All forms must be completed and can be turned in immediately but must be postmarked by Dec. 5, 2008.
Last year the Foundation and the Alumni Association named the first Distinguished Alumni for the district at the Rhapsody in Blue Gala in April. The first recipients include State Representative Larry Taylor (Citizenship), banker and original Voice of the Mustangs Linn Eignus (Trustworthiness), architect and professor Larry Speck (Fairness), Anita Griffon (Responsibility) and Honorary Alumna, Dr. Myrlene Kennedy (Caring). The five were all recognized for the character trait Respect.
“Who will be our Distinguished Alumni for 2009?” Foundation Executive Director Laura Riveron asks. “We don’t know but we do hope many, many applications will be turned in.”
