News: FHS programming wins

Friendswood High School computer science students captured the Sweepstakes Award at Seven Lakes High School on October 11.

Approximately 75 teams competed with 225 students.

Friendswood amassed the most points competing with mostly 5A schools to acquire the Sweepstakes plaque, according to Annette Walter, sponsor.

“This is quite an accomplishment since we lost classroom instructional time due to IKE,” Walter said.

In the Novice Programming Division, FHS competitors won three places. The following members placed first: Adam Coleman, Winston Wu, and Kevin Correll.

Taking sixth place were Ben Watt, Noah Kessler, and Joe Rogers.

The twelfth place team consisted of Michael Rockey, Taylor Scott and Curtis Wells.

FHS Teams took first and eleventh places in the Advanced Programming Division. First place team member include Chris Cotter, Ben Braun, and Andrew Wiley.

The eleventh place team members include Billy Luell and Asher Johnson.

In the Novice Individual Test Division, FHS members were awarded in six areas. Winston Wu received first place. Adam Coleman received second place with Joe Rogers in fourth place. Kyle Murphy was awarded fifth place. Kevin Correll received eleventh place with Noah Kessler in twelfth place.

In the Advanced Individual Test Division, Chris Cotter and Ben Braun tied for third place. Andrew Wiley received eleventh place.
