Returning members to the team include Charles Easterly, Colin David, Jennifer Finch, Alex Rickard, Teagan Batts, and Mason Conrad.  New team members are Ryan Frenk, Chase Harris, Chris Hailey, and Grace Worm.  The team will get some assistance from James Van Matre and Nick Vennekotter.

Long Form becomes new, exciting challenge for FHS team

Long form improvisation is 30-45 minutes of integral plot lines, high-paced energy, and comedic bliss. Charles Easterly and Colin David, another Friendswood High School Senior, introduced long form to FHS last fall during the annual Improv show, Mustang Follies.  Follies

Comedy Cabaret, the FHS Improv Comedy Team benefited greatly, according to Thornton.  Long form has become a new and exciting challenge for the team.

“Easterly and David have kept practicing and perfecting their skills and even made up their own kind of long form - called POV,” Thornton said.

Easterly learned about long form and improv at Theatrefest.

Every year theatre students from all around Texas go to The Texas Educational Theatre Association’s Theatrefest. The convention offers not only professional growth opportunities for teachers, but also opportunities for young actors and technicians to improve their craft, audition, and learn about the business.

Two years ago, Charna Halpern, author of Truth in Comedy and improv guru was a guest at TETA. Halpern taught a workshop about the art of long form improvisation. This is where Charles Easterly, Friendswood High School Senior, claims he had the “best day of [his] life.” He learned some “tricks of the trade” and grew a passion for improv, especially long form.

POV will be introduced in this year’s show by the strong team of nine actors. Mustang Follies is October 11, in the Studio Theatre at 7:00 pm and 9:00 pm.  Tickets are $7 at-the-door.
