*It is recommended that students take Introduction to Agriculture prior to other agriculture courses. This course is designed to cover all areas of agriculture. The subsequent courses allow students to concentration specialization of agricultural areas. FFA is the student organization associated with all agriculture classes. INTRODUCTION TO AGRICLTURE 101
Grades: 9-12
Credit: 1/2
Prerequisite: None
This course provides the student with an overview of world agriculture, environmental issues, current technologies, and communication areas. The students investigate the production of food and fiber crops and explore production techniques of various countries. Using the newspaper, television and magazines, they are encouraged to relate general concepts of trade to current events of the world and to explore environmental issues. Leadership is also an important part of this course, and students are encouraged to practice their leadership skills through FFA. Students are required to earn 35 outside credit hours. This is a state requirement.

INTRODUCTION TO AGRICULTURE 102
Grades: 9-12
Credit: 1/2
Prerequisite: Intro. Ag. 101
This course is designed to follow Intro. Ag. 101. Agriculture 102 to enhance the student's knowledge of agricultural science and technology. Students are given the opportunity to study plants, animals, and soils. Animals are studied according to breeds, anatomy, systems of the body, genetics, and reproduction. Plants are studied according to structure, use and propagation method, and the students use the greenhouse facility for propagation work. Also, soils are studied according to texture, structure, and soil conservation techniques. As in Agriculture 101, leadership skills are taught, and the students are introduced to the supervised experience program.
Students are required to earn 35 outside credit hours. This is a state requirement.

ANIMAL SCIENCE
Grades: 10-12
Credit: 1/2 ATC Credit
Prerequisite: Intro to AG 101 & 102 recommended
This technical course is designed to develop knowledge and skills pertaining to the nutrition, reproduction, health and management of domestic animals. Animal genetics, reproduction, and anatomy and physiology are covered. Also, the selection of domestic animals and carcass evaluations of all classes of livestock is covered. Animal diseases and parasites will be identified and record keeping skills are explored in reference to career opportunities. Leadership skills are developed through the FFA activities. Many students find this to be a very helpful course in training for FFA projects. Students are required to earn 35 outside credit hours. This is a state requirement.

EQUINE SCIENCE
Grades: 10-12
Credit: 1/2 ATC Credit
Prerequisite: Intro to AG 101 & 102 recommended
This technical course is designed to develop knowledge and skills pertaining to the selection, nutrition, reproduction, health, and management of horses. Diseases, feeding, and feeds are important elements of this course. Also, students are given the opportunity to identify the equipment for riding or showing and the techniques or skills needed. Students are required to earn 35 outside credit hours.
This is a state requirement.

FLORAL DESIGN
Grades: 10-12
Credit: 1/2 ATC Credit
Prerequisite: Intro to AG 101 & 102 recommended
This course introduces students to the floral industry and to the production techniques of that industry. The elements of design and the sources of materials for corsages, arrangements and potted plants are taught. Students practice techniques on silk and fresh materials and are encouraged to explore their creative talents. In addition, the magnitude of the floral industry is explored. Students are required to earn 35 outside credit hours. This is a state requirement.

ADVANCED FLORAL DESIGN
Grades: 10-12
Credit: 1/2 ATC Credit
Prerequisite: Must take Floral Design
Students are able to develop skills and techniques learned in floral design and identification of flowers and foliage. Emphasis is placed on job career opportunities. Essentials and creative techniques are stressed. Students are required by the state to achieve 35 additional outside credit hours.

FOOD TECHNOLOGY
Grades: 10 -12
Credit: 1/2
Prerequisite: Intro to AG 101 & 102 recommended
This course includes a study of world food production; the processing, preparing, and packaging of foods; government regulations regarding foods; exploring occupational opportunities and leadership development. Students are required to earn 35 outside credit hours. This is a state requirement. ATC Credit

HORTICULTURE
Grades: 10-12
Credit: 1/2 ATC Credit
Prerequisite: Intro to AG 101 & 102 recommended
This course is a hands-on class where students learn and practice the different methods of propagation or reproduction of plants. The greenhouse is used as a laboratory for identification of plants, practice of propagation, and general maintenance activities used in the class. Identification of insects and diseases as well as prevention of these is also emphasized. Students are required to earn 35 outside credit hours. This is a state requirement.

WILDLIFE AND RECREATION MANAGEMENT
Grades: 10-12
Credit: 1/2
Prerequisite: Intro to AG 101 & 102 recommended
This course emphasizes environmental issues and environmental topics of local and state concern. Students are given the opportunity to receive certification for hunting and boating through the Texas Parks and Wildlife Educational Program. During each unit, safety is stressed. Other topics studied include species of mammals, birds, fish, reptiles, and game. Also, environmental concerns that lead to the species becoming threatened or endangered are covered. Activities include outdoor games, projects, videos, and discussion of current topics. Students are required to earn 35 outside credit hours. This is a state requirement.

PLANT AND ANIMAL PRODUCTION
Grades: 10-12
Credit: 1/2 ATC Credit
Prerequisite: Intro to AG 101 & 102 recommended
Students are given the opportunity to identify the growth requirements, soil requirements and uses of major agriculture food and crops around the world. Soil fertility, erosion, properties and conservation methods will be discussed. Management techniques and systems of our domesticated livestock will be explored. Students are required by the state to achieve 35 additional outside credit hours.
