ACCOUNTING I

Prerequisite: Keyboarding
A two-semester course designed to introduce students to basic accounting principles, proofreading skills, the numeric keypad and math skills. The student will develop the skills necessary to solve accounting problems. Students will apply basic accounting
principles to "real world" situations. This course is a must if the student wants to pursue a business major in college.

KEYBOARDING

Keyboarding is a beginning course required for graduation. It is recommended for 9th graders. This course develops skills through proper technique at the keyboard in touch control of the alphabet, numbers and symbols, speed and accuracy, and production of
correspondence including letters, reports, and term papers. It also provides instruction for proper spelling, grammar, punctuation, capitalization, number expression, composition, proofreading, and organizational techniques.

BUSINESS COMPUTER INFORMATION SYSTEMS I

Business Computer Information Systems I offers hands-on activities in the areas of Word Processing, Draw, Spreadsheet, Database, Internet, Desktop Publishing and Presentations to help students in the workplace and those going on to college. We also teach the history of computers and the various components that make-up the computer including Input/Output devices and the Operating System. Recommended in preparation for college.

MULTIMEDIA (BUSINESS COMPUTER INFORMATION SYSTEMS II)

Prerequisite: Keyboarding and BCIS I or Computer Science
This is an advanced-level computer course. It is lab based and project oriented. Advanced computer concepts with hands-on networking practice, hardware troubleshooting, and system design are covered. The students work in the computer lab to help maintain the computer systems throughout the high school. They also do multi-media set-up for the high school and help maintain the network. The students must have completed BCIS I and be pre-approved for the course.

BUSINESS EDUCATION INDEPENDENT STUDY

Prerequisite: Business Computer Information Systems II
A computer applications course designed to emphasize hardware configurations, system installs, software installs, diagnostic techniques, networks, and all concepts and skills related to advance computer systems and applications. Emphasis is also placed on
integrated software and graphics applications as used in desktop publishing applications. This course is approved for computer proficiency credit. This course will count for the computer elective.

MOS CERTIFICATION

Prerequisite: Keyboarding
This lab course provides advanced technology skills in Microsoft Office 2003 to pass a Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) certification exam. Objectives will be taught and pretest will be given in the classroom in preparation for the actual certification exam. Since Microsoft Certifications are nationally known certifications this will benefit the student when applying for college and/or employment. This course will fulfill the computer requirement on the Advanced Graduation Plan and is also accepted by many
colleges for their computer requirement toward graduation. Students who elect to take the certification exam will be responsible for the exam fee. Students will be encouraged to take Word, Excel, and Power Point core exams.

BANKING AND FINANCIAL SYSTEMS

This course is designed to inform students of their various economic and financial responsibilities as well as better understand their own wants, needs, values and how these affect personal financial decisions. Emphasis is on financial planning, saving, investing, risk management and insurance, retirement planning, housing, and family decisions. Students develop a foundation in the economical, financial, technological, international, social, and ethical aspects of business to become competent consumers, employees, and
entrepreneurs.

ENTREPRENEURSHIP

A course designed to provide a foundation to plan, design and start a profitable business venture. A recommended component of this course is the development of a plan for a new business. The course helps students develop skills such as leadership, cooperation,
organization, oral and written communication, creative thinking, public speaking, human relations, and others required of the successful entrepreneur. Extensive research and technical writing is involved.

ADMINISTRATIVE PROCEDURES CAREER PREPARATION I

This course is designed to prepare students for employment in office related occupations and to encourage further education in the business field. Administrative Procedures Career Preparation allows the student to receive classroom instruction in office techniques while receiving on-the-job work experience in an office setting. Students receive wages as they work 15 hours a week at approved training sites. Reliable transportation is a must. Both instructor and employer evaluate students. In the classroom special emphasis is placed on duties and responsibilities common to most offices, focusing in computer applications relating to word processing, database, spreadsheet and desktop publishing. Also, the ten key calculator is used to prepare business forms such as invoices and purchase orders. Business telephone techniques and communication skills are likewise covered. Leadership activities are provided through Business Professionals of America (BPA). Active club participation is expected.

ADVERTISING

This course focuses on advertising and display skills and concepts. Students will develop advertising campaigns which include selecting media, ad layout and copy. This course also emphasizes the basics of a good display, and the development of seasonal and/or special event display themes.

INTERNATIONAL MARKETING

This course offers students an entrepreneurship and business experience on a global level. Students will have the opportunity to enhance their knowledge using technology, video programs, entrepreneurship simulation, TENET, INTERNET and software to learn
about the international business employer. A thematic approach to the study of international business cultures/ethics will be used to develop the students’ understanding of the global economy. This course is a must for students pursuing a post-secondary degree in business.

MARKETING DYNAMICS CAREER PREPARATION

Application and Interview; Must provide own transportation
This course is a career technology training program which prepares students for careers in the field of marketing. This course involves daily classroom experience and at least 15 hours/week training in a marketing occupation. Marketing students must have reliable
transportation to and from the training station. The Marketing Dynamics Career Preparation class covers economics, business mathematics, product development, pricing strategies, placement decisions, and promotional concepts. DECA is the co-curricular
Marketing student organization in which each student participates and compete against students from other schools for scholarships and awards. Active club participation is expected. Dues of $25 are required.

MARKETING MANAGEMENT CAREER PREPARATION

This is an advanced marketing course with an emphasis on developing decision-making skills. The development of a marketing research project is a recommended component.
