- PHYSICAL EDUCATION AND HEALTH
Physical Education required of all students with the exception
of students enrolled in Marching Band, Drill Training, Drill
Team, Dance, Athletics or the Work Program. Students may earn
no more than 2 credits (4 semesters) in physical education toward
state graduation requirements, but may receive local credit for
any other physical education courses.

- The parent or guardian may request that a student be excused
from participation in physical education for three days if there
is sufficient illness or injury to warrant it. If it is necessary
that a student be excused more than three days, state law requires
a physician's statement.

- Any student interested in the physical education waiver program
must contact his/her counselor to ensure proper enrollment. Strict
guidelines must be followed in order to receive credit.

- All physical education students are required to have a school
approved P. E. uniform ,shorts, shirts (purchased through the
school) socks and shoes. During P. E. valuables should be locked
in basket or locker. Bath towels and lockers are provided.

- The class of 2001 and beyond will be required to take 1/2
credit of Foundations of Personal Fitness. This will be included
in the one and one half credits of Physical Education required.

- NOTE: Fees may be required with some alternative credit opportunities.
- MEDICAL EXCUSES DO NOT EXEMPT A STUDENT FROM THE P.E.
REQUIREMENT OF ONE AND ONE-HALF CREDITS.
All students are required to take 1 1/2 credits of Physical
Education, which includes 1/2 credit of Foundations of Personal
Fitness. A medical excuse does not constitute a waiver of physical
education requirements. (Students may be classified for physical
education on the basis of health or disability as unrestricted,
restricted, and adapted or remedial instruction as per Chapter
75.151 of the State of Texas Education Code.) Students may substitute
certain physical activities for the 1 1/2 required units of physical
education. no more than two credits of P.E. may be counted toward
the minimum high school requirements.

Fitness
1. Drill team, marching band, and color guard during the Fall
semester
2. Athletics
3. Dance I - IV
4. Cooperative Education
A student who is enrolled in a state- and District- approved
private or commercially-sponsored physical activity program whose
primary purpose is to train students in Olympic-level capabilities
may receive up to two units of physical education credit towards
state graduation requirements. The following provisions shall
apply:
1. Program approval shall be for a three-year period unless resolved
earlier.
2. Students shall participate in the activity program for a minimum
of 80 clock hours for each one-half unit of
credit awarded.
3. Students participating in the programs shall miss no more
than one period during regular school day.
4. Olympic activities normally considered shall include gymnastics,
swimming, diving, and figure skating. The students individual
program must have school board approval and authenticity or the
program must be verified as well as the student's attendance.
