Houston Livestock and Rodeo Art Competition:
Tyler Hunter won Best of Show, Ronnie Sokol and Bless Yee won Gold Medals in our district. Their artowrk was exhibited for the duration of the rodeo at the Reliant Center. Tyler's drawing made it into the art auction and it was auctioned off for
$14,000.
Quick Draw Art Competition:
This was an on sight art competition where students were chosen to draw at the Relaint Center and it was sponsored by the Houston Livestock and Rodeo Show Art Committee.
Cash awards and art lessons for the Glassell School of Art (connected with the Museum of Fine Arts) were given. Lindsey Gratzfeld won $250 for her outstanding drawing. Students that won art lessons were Tyler Hunter and Skylar Simons. Their drawings were also exhibited at the Reliant Center.
Culture Shapers:
This is an art competition sponsored by Houston businessmen to encourage and motivate students to do high quality artwork. There are ten different categories with monetary awards for the top art pieces - $1,000, $500 and $250. All artwork is returned and the awards are cash for students to use as they wish. Bless Yee won $2500 for one of her paintings.
VASE - Visual Arts Scholastic Competition:
This is our regional art competition where art students can enter two high quality pieces of artwork.
They are interviewed by an art teacher form another district and rated according to how they put their artwork together and what they have to say about it. Our Medal Winners that advanced to state were: Aubrey DeVillez, Megan Stifter, Bridget Wells, Sara Yeater, Tyler Hunter and Bless Yee. Gold Medal winners at state were: Megan Stifter, Bless Yee and Sara Yeater.
Youth Art Month - Sponsored by Texas Art Educators Association:
Bianna Head and Sara Yeater had artwork that was chosen to be exhibited at the State Capitol for a couple of weeks in honor of Youth Art Month last March.
Bless Yee was awarded an $88,000 Art Scholarship to Parsons School of Art and Design for their four year program. She is presently attending this top school in New York and we are all very proud of her hard work in order to earn thisi scholarship. |
