We are starting 4 year planning sessions today in the library. You and your parents have a scheduled time. If your time is today, you will get a pass from your teacher this morning in advisory. You need to watch the time and leave 5 minutes before your scheduled time. If your parents are not coming, you still have to meet in the library. Please leave and enter your classes quietly and do not forget to get any assignments that you might have missed today.

The FJH school-wide Geography Bee was held in the cafeteria yesterday, January 20th, after school. After many rounds of questions and an extremely hard-fought competition, the following students emerged as our FJH winners:

3rd place - Miss Kayla Ramirez
2nd place - Mr. Garrett Benson
and our school winner in 1st place: Mr. Kevin Williams.

Mr. Williams will now take the written test to see if he will travel to the State Geography Bee later this year. Miss McCarthy would like to thank Ms. Galvan, Ms. Ferro, Ms. Marrow, Ms. Humble-Davies, Ms. Landry, and all students who participated for making our Geography Bee a success.

8th graders:
There is a elective fair at the HS cafeteria Thursday 1/21 from 4-5pm and 6-7 pm. There will also be a parent meeting at 7pm. Please try to attend!

Last night at Pearland West, there was no Tony Upchurch on the court as the 7A Lady Mustangs kept on rolling this season by beating the Lady Wildcatters handly. The score after the first quarter was 16 to 0 lead by Maggie Roher with 8 points in the quarter. Final Score: 52 - 2

Your 7A Mustangs are still undefeated as they start at very busy week next week with 4 games in 4 days, our next home game is Thursday, January 21st vs Pearland East! GO MUSTANGS!!!

The 7B lady Mustangs won 39-4 last night at Pearland West.
Although a rough fourth quarter, the girls finished the game well and played hard!
Player of the game is Jordan Karam! Way to go girls!

The Houston Livestock and Rodeo Art Show was won by: 

Best of Show - Blake Davis and Gold Medal - Shellie Anderson.  Many other excellent art works came from FHJ art students and they all should be congratulated.  You can see their art works at “The Arts Alliance Center at Clear Lake”.  This year’s winners have all ready been moved to the next level of competition at Reliant Arena.

Attention UIL academic team -

Practice for your events will be on Thursday right after school in Ms. Marrow’s room - Room 12.
 If you have signed up to participate in the UIL meet then you will need to stay after school on
Thursday form 3:45 to 4:45.  Have parents pick you up in the bus drive.

Attention all 8th graders interested in trying out for freshman cheerleader for 2010-2011 school year: There will be a mandatory cheerleading tryout meeting for all participants and parents Tuesday February 23rd at 6pm at FHS library. Please see Mrs. Gibb if you have any questions.

Sports Highlight:

Your 8A Lady Mustangs turned in a fine performance against Lomax defeating them 36-18. Every player on the team contributed to the scoring…top scorers were: Kalie Branes 7, Haley Johnson 6 and JoAnn Karam 4. Top rebounders were: Meredith Rittenhouse 7, Lisa Hermes and Haley Johnson 5 each. Top steal leaders were: Shelby Piotereck, JoAnn Karam and Catlin Modesett. Great defense was played by all including Julia Twyford, Mason Newkirk and Krista Kastner. This was a true team effort….They played as a team, believed as a team and made sacrifices as a team. Congratulations!!!!

The FJH Lost and Found has several jackets and other items unclaimed. If anything has been lost, please find out if it's at the Lost and Found soon, as all unclaimed items will be donated to charity on Friday, December 18th.

2010 FJH Spelling Bee
The FJH Spelling Bee will be held in the cafeteria on Wednesday, January 6, 2010 from 4:00-6:00 PM. If you want ot participate in this year's spelling bee, you must sign up in Mrs. Ferro's room (R.36) by Friday, December 18th.

Sports Highlights

The 7A basketball team beat a tough Lomax squad yesterday 37-34. There were no sweater vests at this game as the Mustangs took control at the beginning of the second quarter and never looked back. The Lobos were unable to pull out a win after taking an 11-2 lead to begin the game and again leading during the 4th quarter. Sam Longbotham and JD Partee led the way combining for 20 points and 15 rebounds while Kyle Ranostaj added 9 points in the win. Justin Lowe and Jacob Munoz controlled the paint with solid defense. Great win guys!

This past Saturday, Friendswood Jr. High students competed in the second Theatre festival of the year at Victory Lakes Intermediate.  Our students brought home 56 Superior ratings and 53 Excellent ratings. In addition to this, Maddy Tiemann was awarded a “5-Star Trophy” for her high scores in all 5 events.  Mrs. Garcia and Mrs. Hartley were proud of all the student’s efforts as well as how well they represented our school.

It’s been a banner year for the National Junior Honor’s Society’s fundraising efforts for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.  We have raised approximately $2,000.00 and it is all thanks to your generosity.

And, a big congratulations goes out to Coach Garcia’s advisory.  Your class contributed more than $700.00 to the cause.  We appreciate your advisory’s commitment to raising funds for this worthy cause,  and we will be providing a donut breakfast to your advisory tomorrow.

Again, on the behalf of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation -- thank you so much for all of your donations to help fund research for this debilitating disease.

This past Saturday, 29 FJH students participated in the first Theatre festival of the year held at Fairview Junior High.  Our students returned home with 23 Superior ratings and 34 Excellent ratings. 
The next Theatre festival will be held on Saturday, November 14th at Victory Lakes Intermediate.  Anyone in the school is allowed to participate in the fun!  See Mrs. Garcia in portable 1 or Ms. Hartley in room 48 for more information.Announcements

2009 REGION XVII JH/MS CHOIR MEMBERS

On Saturday, October 10th, 2009, forty-four FJH Choir students traveled to Clear Creek Intermediate School to audition for the 2009 Region XVII JH/MS Region Choir.  Twenty-five members and two alternates from FJH Choir were named.  They are:

The National Junior Honor Society members are selling paper pumpkins to raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.  We will sell the pumpkins through Friday, October 30th.

Pumpkins are $1.00 each and the advisory class that raises the most money for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation will be treated to a donut breakfast on Monday, November 2, 2009.  

In past years, Friendswood Junior High and our chapter of the National Junior Honor Society have raised approximately $1,000.00 annually for CFF.  Help us meet and exceed that goal again by purchasing a pumpkin!  Go ORANGE (that was for you Coach Fritts).
