JUNIOR HIGH PTO MINUTES
BOARD MEETING
October 11, 2007
The meeting was called to order at 9:10 am by Barb Brunson.
Secretary's Report
Barb asked the board to review the minutes from the September
meeting. Connie Brown made a motion to accept the minutes.
Kristi Robertson seconded the motion. The minutes were approved.
Principal's Report
Mrs. Lowe talked about the parent swap day on October 22nd.
The last 3 periods of the day, a parent can attend their child's
class in their place. For PE classes, both parents and students
will attend a session on Internet safety from Sherry Burroughs.
Treasurer's Report
Leslie Reid reviewed the financial statement. She has a
check from the fundraiser for Mrs. Lowe for $19,475.00. The
School Store has already made a profit of $1826 so far this year.
Our current balance is $14,915.00.
New Business
Barb presented Mrs. Lowe with the check from the fundraiser.
Mrs. Lowe will be calling David Jacobson to find a good deal
for the 7th grade computer lab. The money from the end of the
year last year and this fundraiser should cover the lab costs.
Mr. Cappadona explained the use of the multi disk CD player.
It attaches into the intercom system in the room in the cafeteria.
It plays continually and is used for "hold" in the
phone system as well as the music in between classes. Shannon
will try to locate one that she has to donate. Rhonda Mick made
a motion to purchase a new one as well. Leanne Skinner seconded
the motion. The motion passed. Leanne will shop and purchase
the new CD player that PTO will buy. She will also look into
a warranty since they only seem to last for a year.
Mr. Cappadona checked the water supply for emergency use.
They have 400 bottles currently. They will need 20 more cases
of 24 to complete the supply. Doris will send an email reminder
for people to bring water next week to the front office if they
want to donate any. Tami will check the supply next Friday and
purchase the remainder needed with PTO funds.
Tammy Zeroski asked if PTO would donate $50 for additional
chess equipment since their club is growing. The group discussed
this request and decided that since it would not benefit the
whole school, PTO will not fund it. The other clubs make money
that they need to accomplish their own club needs.
NMSA will visit the Junior High on November 8th. Hospitality
will take care of the lunches for those visitors.
Committee Reports
Character Counts Shannon Trochesset reported they had
met with Jr. High administration and instead of the stuffed animal
prizes, they would give out t shirts. They have ordered 130,
but did not specify who would pay for these. The $5 gift cards
that are given out (6 of them weekly to nominees drawn) do not
seem to be appreciated by a lot of the winners. They view the
value as insignificant. Shannon will talk with the counselors
who sponsor the program for other ideas to use as prizes. Some
alternate ideas discussed during the meeting were coupons to
school store, tardy pass or points added to some grade. There
was a discussion explaining that the members of the PTO board
cannot make changes to the Character Counts program, since it
is a school program. It is up to the counselors to make those
decisions and the PTO board's only role is as facilitators for
the school. Shannon also mentioned that she has been paying
for the gift cards without being reimbursed as her donation to
the school. Leslie Reid asked if she would turn in the receipts,
even with no reimbursement, so that we will know how to budget
for the next year and so it can be recorded as a donation to
PTO.
School Store Sharon showed some of the merchandise
from the school store. They are selling a lot this year!
Advisory Parent Nothing has been asked of those
parents as of yet this year.
Directory/Membership Kristi reported that they
were delivered to the teachers to pass out yesterday. The print
shop has had a lot of hardware problems, and unfortunately our
end product is not what we had hoped. There were a few pages
missing, most are stapled instead of bound, etc. The price is
right to use the print shop, but the results are iffy. They
made a $3,573.62 profit on the directories. Membership made
$2,405 this year.
School Supplies Kim Dingell reported that they sold
281 for 7th grade and 222 for 8th grade. They deposited $15,529
and made a $3,400 profit from this committee.
Dances Message from Cindi Scott that they have
the DJ from last year for the dance on Oct. 19th from 7-10.
The pre sales tickets and at the door will be $5. Sharon Erenwert
made everyone aware that the school is also hosting a volleyball
tournament the night of the dance.
Hospitality Rhonda Mick is ready for the luncheon
tomorrow where they will serve fajitas. Mrs. Lowe will also
have a final count on the NMSA lunches in the next couple of
weeks.
Safety - Doris Johnson reported that both 7th and 8th
grade relays are in place.
The next meeting will be held on Thursday, November 8th at
9:00 am in the Cafeteria.
A motion was made to adjourn by Connie Brown. Kristi Robertson
seconded the motion. The meeting was adjourned at 10:23 am.
Respectfully Submitted,
Doris Johnson, Secretary
