JUNIOR HIGH PTO MINUTES
BOARD MEETING
April 10, 2008
The meeting was called to order at 9:05 am by Barb Brunson.
Janelle
Moser, FJH Nurse, spoke about the Health Fair. She and Doris Johnson are organizing this event to be held
on Friday, May 9th from 1:00 – 3:45. JNHS students will help sign in and escort volunteer
participants to their designated area.
In the morning, we could probably use 5 parent volunteers to help set up
the gyms with tables and chairs.
We would also need 1 – 2 volunteers in the afternoon to help
deliver snacks and drinks to the participants. Once we have the participants defined, we may need a few
more volunteers to help with other things during the fair as well. Doris will contact Sherri to help
coordinate those volunteers. The
school has $100 to use for prizes.
We may look into a healthy snack (granola, trail mix). If costs exceed the $100, could PTO
help with those costs? Also, we
may need to provide bags in case no one in the information table area brings
them.
Secretary’s Report
Barb
asked everyone to review the minutes.
Connie Brown made a motion to accept the minutes. Kristi Robertson seconded the motion. The minutes were approved.
Treasurer’s
Report
Leslie
said that she received a $500 bill from Wrinkle, Gardner and Assoc. for filing
our taxes. They had been donating
this service in the past. They
agreed to donate it again this time, but will charge again next year. The new year starts July 1, so a
decision will need to be made before then whether to continue using them for
$500 or find another accountant.
We have a $14K balance currently.
Principal’s
Report
Mrs.
Lowe proudly announced that our school had the highest Reading TAKS scores of
the surrounding area schools. 8th
Grade Math TAKS was given this past Tuesday. Only 4 more TAKS days left this year! They will be having a final design
committee meeting soon for the new Junior High. She is working on having our school designated as a
“No Place for Hate” school.
There was a break-in accompanied by graffiti not long ago. They will be purchasing curriculum from
the Committee for Children to address this issue. The state had mandated a wellness plan for this year which
is where the idea for the Health Day arose. In future years, it should be part of the PE classes. For the last week of TAKS testing, they
will need 6 volunteers each day.
Sherri will organize those.
Also, volunteers will be needed for Safari, Tx on May 23 for the 8th
grade celebration. Sherri will
coordinate those when we get more information about how many are needed.
Mr.
Cappadonna reported that the audit for last year and this year is
complete. He said that everything
was well organized and the new deposit slips are working well. He was able to trace selected
transactions and everything was in place.
New
Business
Barb
announced the Old Board/New Board Luncheon will be held on Thursday, May
15th at 11:30 at
Perry’s. She will get the
menu defined from them soon and Doris will send out invitations.
Barb
was asked for PTO to donate a basket for the Teacher end of year luncheon by
May 23rd in a letter from Carolyn Gephardt. She will talk to Robin more about this.
The
new board list was presented. From
when it was posted two weeks ago, we added the following people on School Store: Lori Fitzgerald, Kelly Farrington,
Elizabeth Kaufmann, Brandi Sellers and Benette Rowley. Doris Johnson made a motion to accept
the new board with the School Store additions. Leslie Reid seconded the motion. The new board was approved. There are still openings on Fundraiser. There was discussion and some board
members agreed to help with the effort in filling those positions.
Committee
Reports
Fundraising
– Connie Brown said that it looks like we may make around $300 from
Schwanns this time.
A
motion was made to adjourn by Doris Johnson. Kristi Robertson seconded the motion. The meeting was adjourned at 10:30 am.
Respectfully
Submitted,
Doris
Johnson, Secretary
