DRESS
CODES
- FRIENDSWOOD HIGH SCHOOL
- 1. Students are expected to refrain from public display of
affection on the school campus. Violations of this are subject
to disciplinary action.

- 2. Proper dress and grooming are the responsibilities of
the student, parent, and school. Each should discourage extremes.
The school is charged with the responsibility of building proper
values, quality citizenship, and maintaining a school climate
that results in academic benefits for the student body. Proper
dress and grooming are considered a part of the educational program.

- 3. Dress Code
In keeping with the FISD belief statements, each person is unique
and has the right to pursue beliefs of their own choice. We also
believe that individuals are responsible for their own actions
and that growth and development are enhanced by family and individuals
who provide love, security, and a sense of belonging.

- We care about our students, their cleanliness and neatness,
and their dress, as well as their learning environment.
-
- The student and parent may determine the student's personal
dress and grooming standard, provided that the student's dress
and grooming:
.....A. Shall not lead school officials
reasonably to believe that such dress or grooming will disrupt,
interfere with, disturb, or detract from school activities. A
modest appearance must be maintained when standing, sitting,
or bending.
.....B. Shall not create a health
or other hazard to student's safety or to the safety of others.
.....C. Shall comply with the following
guidelines:
..........1. Non-wheeled shoes are
to be worn at all times.
..........2. Student's dress and
grooming should be neat and appropriate for their age group and
school activities.
..........3. Clothing is to be modest
and conform to the standards established for the appropriate
school attire. Students are to wear appropriate undergarments.
- ..........4. Hair should be
clean and neatly groomed. It should not cover the eyes or be
colored or styled in any way that is distracting to the learning
environment.
...............a. Curlers are not
acceptable.
...............b. Any unnatural
hair colors are not permitted.
...............c. Mohawk type haircuts
are not permitted.
..........5. Walking shorts, skirts,
or split skirts must be in close proximity to the knee (forefinger
when arm is relaxed at side).
..........6. Sleeveless shirts are
not acceptable for boys or girls.
..........7. Any clothing or accessory
which may be deemed to represent gang affiliation, membership,
or behavior, real or implied, is not permitted. Any clothing
or accessory which may be deemed to be offensive or degrade any
student population is not permitted. This includes any Goth style
dress/clothing.
..........8. Shirts/blouses that
fit properly and do not hang below the top of the back pocket
or over 4 inches from the top of pants/skirts that are worn properly
at the waist may be untucked. Oversized shirts, blouses and jerseys
must be tucked in pants, shorts or skirts. School uniforms or
jerseys worn on game day may be untucked. No see thru shirts
or fishnet tops.
..........9. Pants must fit at the
waist without a belt.
..........10. Tattoos cannot be
visible.
..........11. Pierced body parts
other than the ear are not acceptable for either male or female
students. Eyebrow, nose, and tongue rings will be removed and
returned at the end of the school year.
..........12. Students will not
wear:
...............a. Clothing, jewelry,
heavy chains, or trinkets that are: noisy and distracting; occultrelated;
or that advertise sex, alcohol, drugs, tobacco, or any product
related to alcohol,tobacco, drugs, or sex. Students may not wear
suggestive or inappropriately located decorative patches, insignia,
or clothing with improper advertising, pictures, slogans or statements.
...............b. Clothing that
in any way would suggest disrespect for the American flag.
...............c. Headbands, bandanas,
and hats/caps inside the building. All of these items will be
confiscated and not returned. This applies to all students, male
and female. Head covers may not be worn or brought in the building.
...............d. Clothing that
does not adequately cover the body: Low cut, see-through, backless
dresses, tank tops, halter-type tops, bare midriff blouses, and
tube tops without blouses. Extremely short skirts, spaghetti-strap
dresses, cut-offs, and torn jeans will not be permitted. Midriffs
are to be covered.
...............e. Heavy chains,
animal collars, chokers which look like animal collars, or locks.
...............f. Apparel designed
for participation in sporting events (spandex, nylon athletic
shorts, biking shorts, and similar apparel) except for school
sponsored activities.
...............g. Oversized or excessively
baggy clothes.
...............h. Frayed pants,
unhemmed pants, or high split skirts.
...............i. Trench coats or
coats that resemble trench coats.
...............j. Pajamas of any
type
...............k. Any clothing deemed
inappropriate for the educational setting by the administration
or staff
...............l. Fishnets on arms/legs

- Extra-curricular Activities
- All groups representing the school or school organizations
are expected to put their "best face forward" in public.Therefore
a coach, band director, drill team sponsor, student council sponsor,
etc., may require members to wear ties or dress in a more formal
style.

- Dress Code Violations
Violations of the dress code may result in disciplinary action
being assigned. If the student's dress or grooming is objectionable
under these provisions, the principal or designee shall request
the student to make appropriate corrections. Students who violate
provisions of the dress code will be given the opportunity to
have parents bring appropriate clothing to school or to pick
up the student. If a parent cannot be contacted the student will
be placed in A.S.C.

FRIENDSWOOD JUNIOR HIGH
SCHOOL We expect students to come to
school in clothes that are clean and neat, and we expect students
to exhibit basic cleanliness and grooming that will not be a
health or safety threat to themselves or to other students or
staff. While we respect students' desire to express themselves
in their clothing and grooming styles, we do not permit students
to wear clothing with pictures, emblems, or writing that is lewd,
offensive, vulgar, obscene or that advertises or depicts gang
affiliation or tobacco products, alcoholic beverages, drugs,
or any other substance that students are prohibited from having
or using at school. Slogans, drawings representing local, country,
state or federal detention may not be worn. The principal makes
decisions about dress and grooming violations. Following are
general apparel guidelines.
- *Head/Hair -
- Disruptive haircuts/hairstyles/colors are not permitted
No head coverings of any type are allowed

- *Torso
- Student attire must adequately cover the body as to not be
disruptive to the learning environment. Adequately covered is
defined as no torso skin or undergarment showing regardless of
the seated, bending, arms raised or standing position of the
student. All tops are to have fully attached sleeves. No undergarments
are to be visible at any time.
A general length guideline is that hem length and top of slit
is equivalent to the length of the forefinger when arm is relaxed
at the side. Student clothing is to be appropriate in size, especially
pants, which are to fit at the natural waistline.
Clothing is to be in good condition and free of holes and
frayed edges.
- *Skin/Jewelry/Shoes/Accessories
- Tattoos may not be visible.
Piercing is limited to the ear.
Jewelry must not be disruptive.
Writing/drawing/stamping etc on skin is prohibited.
Non-wheeled shoes must be worn at all times.

- *Backpacks/Wallets/Purses
- No objectionable subject matter on personal possessions or
school property.
No wallet chains.
Backpacks, large purses, and other luggage are not allowed in
the classroom and must fit in the student's locker.
*In general, clothing that suggests disrespect for the American
Flag is not allowed. Clothing and/or jewelry that is disruptive
or that can be used as a weapon is prohibited. (i.e.: spiked
watchbands/bracelets/dog collars, etc.).
If your child comes to school wearing clothes that violate
the dress code or in any other way violates our dress and grooming
standards, she or he will be disciplined appropriately. We will
make efforts to notify you as soon as possible, and if the student
changes clothes or otherwise comes into compliance with the dress
and grooming standards, she or he will return to regular classes
immediately. (A minimum of an after school d-hall will be issued.)

- BALES INTERMEDIATE
- The purpose of our school dress code is to assure that student
dress does not distract from the learning environment. Regulations

the administration, faculty, and staff. Any distracting or disturbing
attire will not be permitted on school property. The following
items are prohibited on campus:
- 1. Hats or caps
2. Shower-type thongs or flip-flop sandals
3. Skirts and shorts above pinkie length
4. Frayed clothing of any type
5. Clothing resulting in a bare midriff, tank tops or muscle
shirts
6. Bicycle shorts/Spandex attire
7. Oversized ("sagging") pants not belted at the waist
8. Chain wallets or choke chain necklaces
9. Shoes with roller inserts
- Shoes must be worn at all times. Clothing with alcohol or
drug related
logos are not allowed at school. All clothing must be in good
taste, and
undergarments should be covered at all times.

- WINDSONG INTERMEDIATE
- The purpose of our school dress code is to assure that student
dress does not distract from the learning environment. Regulations
governing campus dress and grooming standards are enforced by

attire, makeup, or hair styles will not be permitted on school
property. The following items are prohibited on campus:
- 1. Hats, caps, or inappropriate head coverings
2. Shower-type thongs, flip-flops, house shoes or slippers
3. Skirts and shorts above pinkie length
4. Non-manufactured frayed clothing of any type
- 5. Clothing resulting in a bare midriff or tank tops
6. Bicycle shorts/Spandex attire
7. Oversized ("sagging") pants not belted at the waist
8. Chain wallets or choke chain necklaces
9. Skate shoes/shoes with rollers
- Shoes must be worn at all times. Clothing with alcohol
or drug related logos are not allowed at school. All clothing
must be in good taste, and undergarments should be covered at
all times.

- WESTWOOD ELEMENTARY
- We expect students to come to school in clothes that are
clean and neat, and we expect students to exhibit basic cleanliness
and grooming that will not be a health or safety threat to themselves
or to other students or staff. While we respect students' desire
to express themselves in their clothing and grooming styles,
we do not permit students to wear clothing with pictures, emblems,
or writing that is lewd, offensive, vulgar, or obscene or that

dress and grooming violations.
- 1. Shorts and split skirts of a modest length and fit (approximately
mid-thigh, loose fitting, and hemmed) may be worn by students
as designated by the building principal. Bicycle shorts may only
be worn if another pair of shorts or skirt is worn over them.
2. Dresses and skirts should be no shorter than approximately
mid-thigh length and of modest fit.
3. Students are not permitted to wear see-through clothing or
to have midriff areas exposed.
4. Students must wear safe, appropriate shoes at all times. Shoes
with wheels/ rollers, high-heeled sandals, or shower shoes (flip
flops) are not allowed.
5. Clothing normally considered as undergarments (muscle shirts,
tank tops and the like) are not permitted to be worn as shirts.
Spaghetti strap shirts may be worn over another T-shirt.
6. Extremely sloppy or torn clothing is not permitted.
7. Modes of hair design and color that detract from the learning
process shall not be allowed.
8. No hats or caps will be worn inside the building except during
special school events.
