SCHOOL LIBRARIES = STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT

Libraries are the “Universal Classroom” offering a full range of print and electronic resources to provide equal learning opportunities for all students.

School libraries are places where teachers and librarians help students develop essential reading, technological, and digital comprehension skills.

Library instruction centers on teaching information literacy and expertise in solving problems, drawing conclusions, making informed decisions, and learning to participate effectively within in a collaborative working environment.

Student in Library 2Information Literacy Concept Grid: Developing literacy includes learning to navigate the huge amount of information available to us today in electronic as well as print form. Students must learn to discriminate in choosing authoritative, accurate, current and relevant resources. They are encouraged to become sophisticated readers, as well. FISD librarians select the best resources possible, based on particular curriculum needs and essential skill requirements. Teachers, administrators, staff and parents are encouraged to use the libraries often for their own professional needs, and to be aware of the constantly changing look of the research process.
