Citizenship

1.Do youare share to make your school and community better.
2. Cooperate.
3. Stay informed; vote.
4. Be a good neighbor.
5. Obey laws and rules.
6. Respect authority.
7. Protect the environment.

Thoughts become WORDS,

WORDS become ACTION,

ACTIONS become CHARACTER.

CHARACTER is EVERYTHING!

"I must do something" always solves more problems than "Something must be done."

-Unknown

CHARACTER COUNTS! is the most widely implemented approach to character education. It's a nonprofit, nonpartisan, nonsectarian framework that teaches the Six Pillars of Character: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship.

A Letter from our Counselor

Dear Parents,

I am so excited about another great year at Windsong. This is my second year at Windsong and my seventh as a school counselor. I received my masters degree from the University of Houston - Clear Lake and I live in Friendswood with my husband and two children.

As the Windsong school counselor, I want to encourage you to call me with any concern you may have for your child. The Guidance program is such an integral part of our school community. I believe it is important to merge academics and character development for healthy developmental growth of the children here at Windsong. Students will cover the six pillars of character throughout the 2007-2008 school year:
1. trustworthiness
2. respect
3. responsibility
4. fairness
5. caring
6. citizenship

Please feel free to contact me with any concern you may have regarding your child. I am here to help you and your child have a successful year.

Character Counts Commentary

The Six C's of Character
Taken from : Michael Josephson Character Counts Commentary

As you consider your goals for the New Year, I hope you'll think about working on your character. After all, the best road to a better life is to be a better person, and all of us can be better.

One of the best ways to do this is to focus on the Six C's of Character: conscience, courage, consideration, compassion, confidence, and control.

First, be a person of conscience. Listen to the inner voice that helps you know right from wrong and urges you to do what is good and noble.

Second, be courageous. Confront the challenges and choices of your life forthrightly. Make the tough decisions that need to be made and, above all, maintain your integrity by doing what you know to be right even when it costs more than you want to pay.

Third, be considerate. Be more deliberative, thoughtful, and attentive as to how your words and actions will affect others, and reflect on your character. Think ahead so you can avoid undesirable and undesired consequences.

Fourth, be compassionate. Demonstrate a genuine concern for the well being of others. Be kinder and more charitable. Strive to understand more and judge less.

Fifth, be confident in your capacity to overcome whatever difficulties come your way with integrity and dignity. Don't underestimate your resiliency. Resolve to persist until you prevail.

Sixth, be in control of your emotions, appetites, and urges that tempt you to compromise your principles or sacrifice long-term goals for short-term indulgences.

Remember, your character is your destiny.
