Renewals will be added on to the end of your current subscription and newly purchased subscriptions will begin after they have been processed, approximately 8-10 weeks.
All monies earned from this fundraiser will go towards the purchase of new books for the Windsong Library. Students have already been giving the librarian requests.
Read 100
Congratulations to the 09-10 students who read 100 stories:
Lane Alksne-Liles, Anna Osborne, and Connor Ricklefsen
Lane read 16,193 pages
Anna read 12,287 pages
Connor read 10,209 pages
Mrs. Brisbay is issuing a challenge
to all her returning students and the 4th graders entering Windsong
for the 2010-2011 school year. She is challenging you to read
100 stories between May 28, 2010 and May 13, 2011. Mrs. Brisbay
is challenging herself to do the same.
All forms are due May 13, 2011. No late forms will be accepted!
Here's what you do: Use this
database to record the stories you
have read. Record all needed information on the form. If your
book is a collection of short stories, record the title of the
collection and the title, the author and the number of pages
of the story. When you reach 100 stories find the total number
of pages read, staple your pages together then turn your record
into Mrs. Brisbay (make sure your name is on it). Forms will be due on or before May 13, 2011. This program
is based on honesty! Happy Reading!

The Battle of the Books began in the early 1930s as a radio program sponsored by the Chicago Public Schools and the Carson Pirie Scott Department Store. In the 1970s, Joanne Kelly, a former participant and school Librarian transformed the program into a reading incentive program and schools have been adapting it for their needs ever since.
A list of 32 top quality, age-appropriate books will be selected by the end of May or early June. Students who are interested in participating will read a selection of books from 2010-2011 Battle of the Books list. As soon as the list is finalized it will be posted on the Windsong Library Catalog Home page as well as at the Friendswood Public Library. Books will be available at the Friendswood Public Library during the summer and at Windsong Intermediate School Library during the 2010-2011 school year. It is not necessary to read all of the books on the list to qualify for a team. Teams of four members will compete against each other during the school day to become the Windsong Battle of the Books Champs.
Start reading this summer for the 2011 Windsong Battle of the Books.

Windsong's 5th Annual Book Swap
Windsong Intermediate Library held 5th Annual Book Swap on Thursday, May 13, 2010 to encourage summer reading. Students brought books"in like new condition" and "of current interest" to the library to "swap" for a voucher on Tuesday and Wednesday, May 11 and 12. Vouchers were then exchanged for books in the swap. Books with a total publisher value of $2179.13 were "swapped." Participating students went home with summer reading at no additional cost to parents. Let's make Windsong's 6th Annual Book Swap even bigger and better.

Begin reading NOW for the 2010-2011 Texas Bluebonnet Award
"Read 5 and Decide!!"
Students must read or listen to the reading of 5 of the 2010-2011 Bluebonnet Nominees in order to vote in January 2011 for the book of their choice to win the Bluebonnet Award. To prove eligibility to vote, students will need a Bluebonnet Bookmark (available at the Windsong Library) OR the Official Student Reading Record from the Texas Bluebonnet Website complete with parent's initials by each book students have read or listened to AND parent's full signature at the bottom of the form. Students should also highlight the books for easy counting and write their first and last name and 2010-2011 homeroom teacher's name on either form.
Windsong had 338 students vote in the 2009-2010 (99 more students than the previous year.) The top three favorite Bluebonnet Nominees at Windsong were Help Me, Mr. Mutt! (58 votes), What to Do About Alice? How Alice Roosevelt Broke the Rules, Charmed the World and Drove her Father Teddy Crazy! (38 votes), and The Gollywhopper Games (28 votes).
Across the state of Texas, 191,090 students voted, an increase of approximately 40,000 students. Help Me, Mr. Mutt! Expert Answers for Dogs with People Problems by Janet Stevens and Susan Stevens Crummel is the 2009-2010 Texas State Bluebonnet Award Winning book.
