A Bucket Filler
Sadie, a trained reading dog, visited small group counseling classes on Friday to help us learn about filling buckets. Figuratively, of course. Using the book, Have You Filled a Bucket Today?, by Carol McCloud, Mrs. Gruener helped classes look at how to fill the invisible buckets that everyone has. So ,where does Sadie come in? We weave what we can do for pets and what they can do for us in as we talk about ways to manage feelings and problem solve. Did you know that the sole purpose of the Keeshond, also known as a Wolf Spitz, is to be a companion to kids and the elderly? Literally, to be man's best friend. Sadie's owner, Phil Johnson, shared with students that her job is to go to schools and convalescent homes to cheer people up, to read with them, and to fill their buckets. Students then gave each other examples of bucket fillers and bucket dippers to help them discriminate between the two and choose to be a bucket filler. We thank Mr. Johnson and Sadie for their partnership with our counseling program.
