PALs® at Westwood

Westwood Elementary welcomes the Peer Assistance Leadership (PALs) students to our campus. PALs are a unique group of Friendswood High School students who are carefully selected and trained teens who provide assistance in a variety of ways and foster a productive school experience for their PALees.

They are committed to forming a special relationship with and having a positive influence on those students whom they mentor. The social skills that they help build in our youth can become healthy habits that will last a lifetime.

Our PALs make kids feel so special and I know our students cherish their time together. Their visits are at 12:30 on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursday.

These high school seniors will be at Westwood once a week to spend quality time getting to know the child with whom they are paired. The pairings are a win-win situation as the teenagers have an opportunity to model healthy behaviors and social skills while the little ones benefit from some playtime with a caring role model. Our PALs truly leave their marks on the hearts of the little learners that they're fortunate to mentor. Westwood thanks their sponsor Lisa Wessels for the opportunity to once again host them on our campus.

The PAL/Peer Helping course is a peer helping program in which selected high school students will be trained to work as peer facilitators with other students on their own campus, and/or from feeder middle and elementary schools. Likewise, the PAL/Peer Helping course is intended to provide a field experience for young people who are potentially interested in careers in education and/or related helping professions. Participants will be trained in a variety helping skills, which will enable them to assist other students in having a more positive and productive school experience.
