First graders from Mrs. Michael's
class had a special visit on Friday from Mr. Wyble's third graders
that put a huge smile on their faces. Our Book Buddies program
pairs older students with younger ones to allow for positive
interaction across grade levels. Each third-grade class will
partner with a first-grade class and second graders will buddy
up with kindergarteners for reading time.
The program is designed to give
a leadership opportunity to the older students and positive role-model
time for the younger students. It will also give the younger
students a chance to showcase their developing reader skills.
These weekly meetings will help build literacy skills while finetuning
their ability to get along with one another as they build relationships
with their new friends. It looks like they're off to a great
start!
