Hometown Heroes Wow Westwood |
| Westwood's character
cam spotted some new kids on the block at Wednesday Warbles this
week as the Friendswood High School Girls' Basketball Team came
by to celebrate Fairness. Our celebrities arrived way before
Warbles to chat with students and sign autographs. After our
routine morning announcements, Westwood students shared their
song for the week - Do You Wanna Know Freedom? - in honor of
the work of Martin Luther King, Jr., whose birthday we celebrated
on Monday. |
 |
 |
| Then our Hometown
Heroes took the mic to share some words of wisdom with us. Coach
Kirby Killingsworth, joined by her two assistant coaches and
their basketball players, encouraged students to play fair and
work together in everything they do. One of the athletes, carrying
her favorite children's book in her arms, used the story of The
Little Red Hen to reinforce the importance of teamwork and
fairness in sports and in life. Another player connected with
our kids by referring to Disney Channel heroes like Hannah Montana
and Cody and Zach and pointing out how they need fairness to
work stuff out in their popular television sitcoms. |

| As we closed Warbles,
these Hometown Heroes joined us with fun percussion instruments
in hand for our School Song. They even made Spirit Tunnels for
us as we headed off to class for the day. We appreciate our partnership
with these FHS role models, who got up early to be a part of
our mid-week character celebration, and we thank the girls' basketball
coaching staff as well as Mrs. Kaufhold for arranging today's
treat. |
