The Westwood family gathers every Wednesday
morning in the gym for a special community meeting to encourage
camaraderie within the school body. Fondly known as Wednesday
Warbles, this gathering gives us a chance to pledge the flags
together, say the Westwood Pledge to one another, and take our
moment of reflective silence as a group.
We recognize birthdays, make morning announcements, and select a class to join our Compliment Club. Classes are nominated for this honor for showing model behavior as a team throughout the school in places like the hallway, specials classes, and the cafeteria. The winning class, chosen at random from our Compliment Club nominees for the week, will earn some read-aloud time with an Administrator and a quick break for their teacher.
Our music teacher, Mrs. Rachita, then leads us in a character or special-occasion song. We also use this opportunity to celebrate weekly attendance. We crown a Prompt Prince or Princess (selected randomly from all of the students with no tardies for the week) to sit in a special "throne" for the day. Additionally, we look at whole-class attendance and, when five or more classes have met our perfect-attendance (with no more than one tardy) goal, they stand up to be recognized because they've earned the Chicken Dance, performed by Mrs. Hobratschk and Mr. Whitlock. What fun it is to watch that attenDANCE celebration!
Donned in our CHARACTER COUNTS! at Westwood
t-shirts, students and staff add a touch of blue and white to
Wednesday Warbles, which serves to enhance our mid-week unity.
We close our morning gathering with a spirited-version of the
Westwood Elementary School Song, setting the tone for a wonderful
Wednesday at Westwood.
