A Concert for the Holidays

Photographs may be enlarged.

The Westwood Treble Makers performed their festive Holiday Program to a packed house on Monday night. Under the direction of Laura Rachita and accompanied by Laurie Purcell on piano, these little songsters shared the spirit of the season with songs like Sights of Christmas, Oy Chanuke, Come Light of the World, and A Festive Christmas Celebration.

Their tone turned from solemn and serious to playful and prancey when they kicked up their heels with an upbeat, jazzy version of Jingle Bell Rock. To close the program, these Westwood Ambassadors shared Always Believe. a ballad that Mrs. Rachita selected because of the lyrics, which challenge audience members to listen to their hearts and believe in the power of their dreams.

81 members strong, a third-grade choir doesn't put on a concert of this magnitude without lots and lots of help. Mrs. Rachita extended a special thank you to Mrs. Markley, Mrs. Mendoza, Mrs. Perillo, Mrs. Arnold, Mrs. Colwell, and Mrs. Vernado for being faithful weekly volunteers, to Mr. Kirkwood for his assistance during his student-teaching experience, and to the parents who helped with chaperoning and donations.

The Treble Makers will head out into the community on Wednesday to Hope Village and to the University of Houston - Clear Lake to perform the music from this concert as well as some of the signature character songs which make our school a special place to be.
