Traveling through the holidays in a special
afternoon rotation this week, second graders are getting a taste
of the sights and sounds of Christmas, not only from the United
States, but also from countries like Mexico, England, France,
and Germany.
At each station, students will learn the history
behind the holiday traditions of countries around the world.
Where and when did a tree, for example, first become a symbol
of Christmas? What's the story behind that beautiful red pointsettia?
And who started the tradition of baking and decorating gingerbread
men during holiday-time? After the students study the celebratory
customs of the country, they create a tangible craft to take
home so they can share this cool way to connect with other cultures.
