| It's a Friday in
February and what's up at Westwood? More than just the sun, that's
for sure. The day starts with visitors from the Math Club at
Friendswood High School. Our FHS role models brought flash cards
and other manipulatives to help reinforce math skills and enrich
math memory. During their visit, Mrs. Millsaps' kindergarteners
came by the cafeteria to serenade our cafeteria manager, Jean
Smith, with birthday greetings. That treat was doubly sweet because
Mrs. Smith's grandson is a student in that class family. Counseling
groups met for some puppet play and to learn about the circle
of control, square breathing, anger management, what makes us
smile, and the five friendship love languages. One group even
worked at answering the question, "What's Heaven?" |

| In the afternoon,
our character cam caught Mrs. Kaufhold's second-grade class using
chenille sticks to make "respectacles," Mrs. Kinloch's
class working on fine motor skills like cutting and pasting,
and Mrs. Huckabee's astronauts literally hanging from the ceiling.
The day ended with a Let's Include New Kids (LINK) gathering
for the seven students new to Westwood since December. They enoyed
a Reader's Theater with Mrs. Hobratschk and Mrs. Gruener and
had some time to get to know one another a little better. We
found out that we now have another gymnast, a few soccer players,
a great whistler, and a few baseball players at Westwood. What
a FUNtastic Friday! |
