Family Math Night

Photographs may be enlarged.

On February 28, students and parents worked and played math at Westwood. Students solved math problems by jumping rope, made geometric figures with marshmallows, counted music rhythms and saw musical fractions, measured stuffed animals in nonstandard measurement, figured out how long one minute took, made their own problem solving truck, did interactive math with a mimeo, and so much more. Brains were buzzing, numbers were being calculated, and smiles were spread across the building as families did math together.
After their hard work, they were treated to ice cream. Most exciting was the amount of pennies collected by students - the student whose estimate is the closest to the correct amount will be able to choose the charity to whom the money will go. Westwood teachers and staff sponsored this event to "give back" to the families who so generously support them. It was a great mathematical night!
