| Lost and Found |
| The unpredictable Texas weather coupled with
the age of the students at an elementary school make for a great
recipe for a Lost and Found area. Just take a look at the batch
of coats, jackets, and other miscellaneous items in Westwood's
gymnasium. None of the things in this picture has a name in it
which makes it difficult for staff members to get it to its rightful
owner. As our first semester winds down, please have your child
look through this area to see if any of these things belong to
him or her. These unclaimed items will be donated to a charity
at the end of the month. |

| The Bus Rolled On and On |
| Students from Mr. Wyble's thid-grade class
got on a bus at Warbles on Wednesday in honor of Martin Luther
King, Jr. Their Reader's Theater production reenacted the story
of Rosa Parks, an African-American who got on a bus and sat down,
but was subsequently told by the bus driver to give up her seat
and get to the back to accommodate the white passengers. After
each line in this interactive skit, the audience was asked to
chant together, "And the bus rolled on and on." When
Mrs. Parks wouldn't give up her seat, the audience chant changed
to, "And the bus stopped." Because of the courage of
just one passenger, the bus stopped, and so did segregation. That
was Dr. King's dream, that all people be treated equally. And
that is still our dream today, not just on the bus, but everywhere,
all the time, even when nobody's looking. As we focus on Fairness,
we celebrate what Martin Luther King, Jr. did for us and we honor
him for being a character role model. |
