| Westwood was abuzz
with excitement Friday morning for some anxious third graders,
their teachers, and their families. Twenty two stellar spellers
made it past the written round to the oral Bee where words like
hearth, layette, opera, wigwam, bonanza, and mermaid came flying
their way. The annual Bee went 12 rounds before runner-up Sarah
Hall was stung by the word course and left the door opened
for Tom Hermes to earn the crown. His final word, minute,
was no match for this year's Spelling Bee champ. We congratulate
our courageous competitors and wish Tom the best as he competes
against students in grades two through eight in the Galveston
County Bee next month. |
