| Where did Wednesday
Warbles get its name? There are a number of perching birds called
"warblers." They are not particularly closely
related, but share some characteristics, such as being fairly
small, active and insectivorous. A hard-to-identify-to species,
they are mostly brownish or dull greenish in color, of small
size, and interestingly enough, more easily seen than heard.
Westwood's warblers are quite the opposite. On most Wednesdays,
it's a song with a character theme that resounds in the gym before
school, but the Wednesday before spring break it was the melodic
sound of the recorder. Third-grade students serenaded the crowd
with Hot Cross Buns, Lucy Locket, and Starlight, Starbright.
As an encore, those students who have earned their black belt
in Recorder Karate treated the audience to Ode To Joy. Way to
go, Warblers! |
