A Bowling Fowl

Photographs may be enlarged.

You've probably heard of a foul in bowling, but unless you're part of the Westwood family, you might not be aware that you can actually bowl a fowl. Turkey, that is.

In our second annual Turkey Bowling Tournament, the staff met in the gym after school to find that the rules had changed to add a new challenge: the turkey came out of its netting and each team on campus had to select six bowlers to throw the frozen bird down the alley taking aim at only 3 pins.Points were tallied as the pins fell and excitement permeated the air like the smell of pumpkin pie on Thanksgiving Day.

Thanks to a solid strike by Mrs. Delka, the second grade team came out on top, knocking down a total of 9 pins for the win. Their success earned them the coveted title of Turkey Bowl Champs along with a catered lunch from Jason's Deli. Door prizes like a can of cranberries, a box of stuffing mix, and a turkey baster went to a few lucky contestants. One of our little cheerleaders summed up the event nicely when he eloquently declared, "hey, turkey bowling is really cool."
