| The hallways at Westwood
Elementary have gone retro in anticipation of our 40th birthday
party on Saturday. Classes have been backtracking to 1967 and
studying all about the years in between then and now. On morning
announcements, Mrs. Hobratschk has been reading from The Surveyor,
Westwood's parent newsletter from 1967. We heard that our school
didn't have a name when it opened so they held a contest and
a student actually gave Westwood its name. We were surprised
when she read how strict the dress code for teachers and students
was, and we chuckled to find that there was also a traffic problem
way back then. We didn't know that Westwood was a school for
first through fifth graders and didn't have a kindergarten when
it first started. We've found out some fun facts, too, like a
movie ticket only cost $1.50 and a soda was 15 cents the year
Westwood opened. Imagine how inexpensive a gallon of gas was!
Popular television shows back then included Batman, Andy Griffith,
and Underdog. Does this trivia whet your appetite for Saturday's
groovy birthday bash? We hope you'lll join us to celebrate 40
years of excellence! |
