 Who's Your Buddy?
Life Cycles of Meal Worms and Frogs studied
Mrs. Markley's 2nd grade class is having a blast studying the life cycle of beetles and frogs. From Egg to adult, the students are learning first hand how these two animals grow and change very differently.
Each stage of the life cycle is a new adventure. Which will win the race to adulthood? The answer lies in Westwood Elementary's Science Lab...
It's No Mystery
Mrs. Gruener was surprised with a visit by two mystery readers from Mrs. Hunter's class Friday. With book titles like "I Am Generous" and "I Care About Others," the message that these little readers were sharing is no mystery.
The girls were pleased to share these character books with their counselor and their counselor delighted in their enthusiasm for her favorite topic, character!
A third mystery reader came by Friday afternoon and, sure enough, he had a book about character, too. It's no mystery that a visit from some friends sure does make the day special!
The Big Bad Wolf Visits Westwood
What is the REAL story behind the Three Little Pigs and the Big Bad Wolf? Students in Mrs. Michael's first-grade class got to the bottom of it when the Big Bad Wolf (a.k.a. Robert's mom) visited the class and shared the story from her point of view.
Robert's sister Bobby, a fifth grader, read aloud as the Wolf's side of the tale was finally told. Our mystery readers sure do make stories come alive, and this Big Bad Wolf's surprise visit on Friday was no exception. Want to know what really happened? You'll have to read the book to find out.
A Crowning Event
Westwood crowned its first Prompt Prince at Wednesday Warbles this week to celebrate an entire week of punctuality. In this new incentive program, every child who comes to school all week on time, without a tardy on their record, is eligible to be crowned the Prompt Prince or Prompt Princess.
All of the names of the on-timers are put into a bin and one lucky student is randomly chosen to sit on the throne and be honored for the day. And our winner this week: Tyler from Mrs. Krail's first-grade class. Actually, we all win when we watch our watch and get to school on time.

Pillar Patrol

Starting Monday, September 10, a few new leaders dressed in blue vests will be helping in the car rider line, at the front and back doors, and in the gymnasium before school. We are so excited to welcome this year's Pillar Patrol, a group of third-grade volunteers who will be taking their post to greet students as they arrive and help where they see a need. In the front of school, Pillar Patrol students will be opening the door for our car riders as they exit their vehicles in the morning. At the school doors, they'll assist and greet with a friendly "hello" to all who enter. In the gym, they will help Mrs. Brady and Mrs. Grethen monitor our students as they wait for class to begin. We thank Mrs. Rogers, our third-grade team leader, for scheduling students by class to perform these important duties and we anxiously await their service to our school family.
