In honor of "Celebrate
Freedom Week", Mrs. Jennifer Quigley's first grade class
at Westwood Elementary was treated to a "Mystery Reader"
guest. Students were delighted to learn the identity of their
Myster Reader was Aunt Samantha - a very close relative of Uncle
Sam! Aunt Samantha (aka Merri Morales, mother of student Jacquelyn)
read one story about the importance of the Independence Day holiday,
and then made the children squeal with delight when she presented
the next story to them. This book was authored by Mrs. Morales
and contained pictures of every child in the class.
As the pages were turned, each
contained a picture of one student depicting an acitivity we
are free to enjoy because we live in the great country of the
United States of America. By the time the story ended and the
last page was read, students had huge smiles lighting up their
faces to know that they are very lucky indeed to be able to do
such things as go to school, study the subjects that they are
interested in, play outside if they would like to, and choose
the foods they would enjoy eating. The USA is a wonderful country
indeed and that we are free to be anything we want to be, but
the greatest thing is.....I am free to be ME!
