The following is a letter of thanks that was
sent to Westwood recently with a flag and a beautiful woven wrap
from Afghanistan. The flag and letter are on display in the receptionist's
area of our school; the wrap will be auctioned off at this
year's Round Up Carnival.
Dear Barbara Gruener and friends,
On behalf of the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen
and Marines serving at Camp Eggers, Kabul, Afghanistan, thank
you for your notes of thanks and support! The people working
here serve tours ranging from 4 - 15 months away from their homes
and familes, trying to make life better and more secure for the
people of Afghanistan and for the people back home. The work
is very challenging and the temperatures over here are still
very cold (usually below freezing), but the notes and packages
we receive from the US provide a nice break in the day and a
reminder of the people and places we have temporarily left behind.
Please accept the enclosed US flag, which
is the one shown in the picture below, as a token of gratitude
from the troops in Afghanistan.
